The Actuarial Consultant is accountable for designing, developing, and continuously improving actuarial pricing functions, with a focus on complex projects requiring expert actuarial and/or cross-disciplinary knowledge. The role supports the achievement of ACG’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Objectives in both the short and long term.
This includes responsibility for establishing and executing a performance plan with stratum-appropriate deliverables, ensuring optimal plan results and performance metrics. The Actuarial Consultant also provides operational leadership to a team of Actuarial Analysts and Senior Actuarial Analysts, fostering collaboration to meet pricing and corporate performance goals.
Accountabilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert on cross-functional and high-impact initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between actuarial, business, and systems teams on assigned projects.
- Lead or support the development of rating plans, new products, pricing processes, and methodologies.
- Coach and mentor junior actuarial staff; review and delegate work as appropriate.
- Develop deep expertise in actuarial data systems; identify and address data limitations and flow issues.
- Clearly communicate complex analyses and insights to internal stakeholders and provide actionable recommendations.
- Support Pricing and Risk leadership in implementing rate changes, regulatory filings, and product introductions.
- Ensure compliance with CAS and CIA Standards of Practice.
Qualifications:
Education or equivalent working experience: Bachelor’s Degree in actuarial, statistics, or similar field
Experience:
Minimum of 7 combined total Exams* and Years’ Experience**
* Exam total includes Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams or equivalent exam credits obtained from an approved actuarial organization or through exam waivers granted by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries University Accreditation Program; excludes Online Courses and Validation by Education Experience (VEE) credits
** Years’ Experience includes actuarial co-op/contract/full-time experience
Previous experience/areas including levels required:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Proven problem-solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Self-starter with a track record of adapting new techniques and driving process improvements.
- Ability to develop practical business solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence peers and stakeholders.
Bonus qualification:
- ACAS designation or completion of Actuarial Exam 5
- Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) pricing and regulatory filings.
