Job Description
Acts as a team lead and provides subject matter expertise and guidance for the research, analysis, and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in current and upcoming projects of broad scope and complexity. Provides financial reporting and operations expertise for current and upcoming cross-functional projects and tasks.

Accountabilities:
Accounting Research and Financial Process Expertise
- Provides subject matter expertise in financial reporting and operations for current and upcoming projects of broad scope and complexity.
- Leads research of IFRS and US GAAP assessments and complex business transactions; applies experience and knowledge to draft accounting policy documents and implement the accounting infrastructure, processes, and financial reporting while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
- Synthesizes, monitors, analyzes, and summarizes financial results for leadership decision-making.
- Leads investigations of complex accounting and reporting processes and recommends enhancements.
- Leads discussions to inform internal groups of the financial and operational impact of upcoming changes.
- Proactively assesses, recommends, and challenges accounting policies and implements process improvements.
Financial Statement Analysis
- Performs meaningful financial statement analysis to model and evaluate impacts of changes in accounting treatment for leadership decision-making.
- Conducts detailed sensitivity analysis for leadership decision-making.
- Reviews and communicates recommendations to senior management to influence decision-making.
- Creates new information templates, tracking tools, databases, and retrieval processes for leadership decision-making and to recommend improvements or policy changes.
- Leads ad-hoc projects from initiation to close.
- Researches and remains abreast of current and future developments in IFRS and GAAP standards to address implications and advise on potential oraganizational impact.
- Monitors adherence to current accounting treatments and with standards.
- Assists in reconciling IFRS and US GAAP differences.
Financial Statement Controls
- Leads the development and implementation of financial reporting controls.
- Resolves conflicting data between disparate sources.
Team Leadership
- Acts as a team lead and represents the team with business stakeholders.
- Conducts the first review of ad-hoc analyses produced by other team members.
- Leads and coaches less experienced team members with research, timelines, and integrity and accuracy of assessments.
- Trains less experienced team members (e.g. regulatory filing requirements, the use of templates, tools, databases, and processes, etc.).
Qualifications :
- Requires 3-5 years of related experience with financial reporting, preferably in the financial services or insurance industry.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience.
- CPA designation is required.
- Accounting principles (e.g. IFRS, GAAP) and legal and regulatory accounting requirements.
Bonus qualifications:
- Proficiency in System Applications and Products (SAP) or similar accounting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Coaching and mentorship skills.
- Mathematical, financial, and business acumen.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Research, analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Project coordination, prioritization, and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry experience is an asset.
