Job Description
The Vice President and Chief Reinsurance Officer will provide enterprise leadership and strategic oversight of Allstate’s reinsurance strategy, financial impact, governance, placement and operational execution. This role is accountable for designing, optimizing, and executing reinsurance programs across the enterprise including catastrophe, per-risk, quota share, and aggregate arrangements. The role will align reinsurance strategy with Allstate’s risk appetite and financial objectives while ensuring that reinsurance is an integral component of capital strategy and optimization.
This executive is responsible for building and maturing reinsurance analytics, financial planning, and disclosure processes. They partner closely with senior leadership across Finance, Product, Claims, Risk and Return Management, and external reinsurance markets to ensure Allstate’s reinsurance program is resilient, well-governed, cost-effective, and positioned to support long-term profitable growth. The role has significant interaction with C-suite executives, the Enterprise Risk and Return Council members, and senior governance committees in presenting thoughtful alternatives, tradeoffs, and implications of options spanning traditional reinsurance, insurance-linked notes, and bespoke capital arrangements. The role is also highly integrated into Allstate’s broader capital management strategy, which strives to achieve the objectives of Allstate’s various stakeholders.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Set and execute the strategic vision for Allstate’s reinsurance program and serve as a key advisor in establishing Allstate’s catastrophe risk framework alongside the Personal-Lines Chief Risk Officer and the Enterprise Risk and Return Council.
- Strategically link Allstate’s reinsurance program to the company’s financial objectives, growth initiatives, and broader capital management framework.
- Lead strategic decisions for reinsurance placement, structure, and financial optimization across the enterprise.
- Serve as the enterprise thought leader on reinsurance market dynamics, capital efficiency, catastrophe exposure, and risk-transfer strategies.
- Influence enterprise capital planning, underwriting strategy, and risk appetite through reinsurance insights and benchmarking.
- Maintain and deepen reinsurer, alternative capital, and broker relationships, ensuring strong partnerships, insights, performance monitoring, and market engagement.
Reinsurance Program Design & Execution
- Build, optimize, and oversee all reinsurance programs including catastrophe, per-risk, quota share, aggregate, and intercompany arrangements.
- Ensure rigorous and creative evaluation of structuring options, pricing, and financial outcomes; communicate options and implications effectively to senior leadership, regulatory bodies, and governance committees.
- Govern end‑to‑end renewal processes, catastrophe bond issuances, and key reinsurance transactions.
- Ensure the accurate reflection of reinsurance costs and recoveries in financial results, planning processes, rate filings, and underwriting decisions.
Financial Reporting, Controls & Governance
- Lead development and review of 10‑K, 10‑Q, and other reinsurance‑related disclosures.
- Own SOX controls related to reinsurance programs, financial reporting, and operational metrics.
- Provide comprehensive variance analysis, financial impact assessments, and board‑level presentations regarding reinsurance structure and performance.
- Ensure reinsurance programs and processes align with regulatory standards and enterprise risk management policies.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership & Integration
- Collaborate with senior leaders across Finance, Product, Claims, Risk and Return Management, and other business areas to integrate reinsurance strategy into business goals.
- Represent Allstate at external forums, panels, and market discussions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Economics, or related field.
- Advanced degree or designation (MBA, MS, FCAS, etc.) preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in reinsurance, catastrophe risk, insurance finance, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex, regulated industry, overseeing large-scale risk or financial programs.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- No Certification, License or Registration is required for the job.
