Job Description
The Director, Risk & Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining the enterprise risk and return management vision to support achievement of Allstate Canada Group’s (ACG) short- and long-term Mission, Vision and Strategic objectives while balancing risk and return. The role, in partnership with Senior Leadership, will foster a strong risk culture, promoting a risk-aware culture throughout the organization, providing training and clear communication to stakeholders to drive a risk aware culture.-The role is accountable for the development and implementation of Risk and Return Management initiatives such as risk and control self- assessments, continuous monitoring, risk and control automation, department risk frameworks and profiles and building out measurements around risk. At this level, the Director sets the execution strategy in support of the strategic direction for their organization and in support of the business objectives of the company, ensuring the structures and processes needed to effectively deliver the mission of the Risk and Return Management organization are in place. This role may include direct accountability for a risk category (e.g., strategic risk, culture risk, insurance risk, etc.), accountability for various sub-categories of operational risk, board and regulatory reporting, or it may include client relationship management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Identifying emerging risk, evaluating risk, monitoring the status of strategic initiatives and communicating changes in our risk profile.

Drive a culture of risk ownership and accountability across the organization and ensure key risks and outcomes are identified, measured, managed, monitored, reported and escalated as needed.

Lead the Enterprise Risk and Return Council (ERRC), Operational Risk and Return Council (ORRC) and board reporting
-
Provide risk consulting to complex and/or confidential topics and deliver a holistic view of risk to key stakeholders
-
Lead the development or enhancement of dynamic governance frameworks; Establish Key Risk & Performance Indicators
-
Promote risk management practice and culture to strengthen the risk and return environment of Allstate
-
Participate in various governance, working groups, AOR and project meetings related to risk and control matters assuring an open environment for collaboration, risk identification and mitigation
-
Manage a team of risk managers, consultants or analysts responsible for understanding the risk environment, and managing event-specific situations
-
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and collaborating with industry stakeholders on new requirements.

Identify and assess severity and likelihood of issues for potential escalation and communication to Business Executives and Senior Risk Managers

In partnership with Senior Leaders, ensure that risk considerations are embedded in strategic planning
-
Effectively communicate Allstate Canada Group’s risk posture and emerging risks to ACG’s Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, as well as to regulatory bodies as required, providing reports and risk insights to the Board to facilitate informed oversight of the risk profile and management practices.

Responsible for effective independent challenge of first line risk management activities, thematic reviews and ‘deep dives’ with senior leadership.
