Job Description
The Data Center Service Engineer on the 3rd shift supports the research, design, planning, and maintenance of new and existing network hardware and software components. The Data Center Service Engineer utilizes systems, scripting, and developer skills to execute tasks related to analysis, integration, and simple to moderately complex incidents and problems affecting production systems and multiple applications. This role also helps define and update items in the configuration management plan.
The internal Allstate job title used for this role is Systems Engineer Consultant I.
The Data Center Service Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining reliability and efficiency of our data centers. The engineer will be responsible for hardware installation/decommission, move/add/change, and repair of servers and network connected devices. You will be working with our Network Operations Center and various product engineering teams to innovate new solutions and troubleshoot technical issues, while adhering to industry best practices.
This is a 3rd shift, onsite role based at our Rochelle, Illinois location, with a schedule of Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM Central Time.
Key Responsibilities

Support implementation of simple to moderately complex network hardware and software technology components by analyzing the current system environment and infrastructure, using technical tools and utilities, and performing complex product customizations.

Support execution of testing, debugging, performance analysis, and documenting simple to moderately complex hardware and software technology components.
-
Collaborate to build consensus with other Engineers to ensure that the modified hardware and software infrastructure interacts appropriately, data conversion impacts are considered, and other areas of impact are addressed and meet business function and performance requirements.

Support the completion of the following activities (concerning simple to moderately complex new network hardware and software technology components or enhancements to existing components): research, analysis, design, selection, planning, and engineering.

Support identifying and recommending major and significant changes for simple to moderately complex network hardware and software technology components for purposes of incident avoidance.
-
Resolve incidents and perform root cause analysis, escalating high complexity incidents and problems to provide future application, hardware and/or software resiliency.
-
Support efforts to ensure plans integrate effectively with other aspects of the technical hardware and software components.
-
Support the support for production service requests, performing routine administration, and supporting simple to moderately complex network hardware and software infrastructure (i.e., Request Center, Change Order execution).

Support the effort to develop and maintain tools for the use of maintaining, modifying, and monitoring hardware and software technology components.
Qualifications

1–2 years of experience supporting data center or IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and network components in enterprise environments (preferred)

Experience with configuring and supporting routers, switches, firewalls, and other core networking equipment
-
Proficiency in server hardware, virtualization, and networking protocols
-
Proficient in assisting with the deployment, testing, and debugging of simple to moderately complex network systems and tools
-
Skills in diagnosing and resolving hardware/software issues; capable of performing root cause analysis and supporting incident response

Working knowledge of change control processes, configuration management, and production support procedures
-
Familiarity with tools used for monitoring network health, performance analysis, and system diagnostics
-
Basic experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) or automation tools (e.g., Ansible) is a plus
-
Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally to ensure system compatibility and infrastructure alignment

Exposure to ITIL practices and tools such as ServiceNow is beneficial

Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar certifications are a plus
