Auto Litigation Specialist – RSLA

Job Description
The RSLA Specialist is responsible for managing complex vehicle relocation, storage, and lien-related disputes that arise throughout the total loss claims process. Working closely with Total Loss Advisors, Salvage, Legal, Finance, towing providers, repair facilities, and external counsel, the RSLA Specialist drives cost-effective resolutions while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and company best practices. This role requires strong negotiation, analytical, and relationship management skills, along with the ability to assess financial exposure, challenge unnecessary costs, and make recommendations that balance customer outcomes with business results.
File Management and Resolution
- Review and assess RSLA referrals to ensure required information has been gathered before engagement.
- Investigate vehicle relocation, towing, storage, and repair facility disputes.
- Negotiate directly with tow yards, storage facilities, repair shops, legal representatives, and other involved parties.
- Develop and implement strategies aimed at achieving timely and cost-effective claim resolutions.
- Maintain detailed file documentation, negotiation history, and decision rationale within claims systems.
Negotiation and Cost Mitigation
- Analyze storage, towing, and related charges to identify opportunities for mitigation.
- Conduct cost-benefit assessments and provide recommendations regarding dispute resolution options.
- Influence external vendors and stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Escalate matters requiring management review and provide recommendations supported by financial analysis.
Litigation and Payment into Court (PIC)
- Coordinate litigation-related activities and support the PIC process when negotiations are unsuccessful.
- Prepare documentation required for legal review and court proceedings.
- Work closely with internal and external legal partners to advance litigated files.
- Track recovery opportunities and ensure proper handling of return-of-funds transactions.
Partnership and Collaboration
- Partner with Total Loss, Salvage, Finance, Legal, and other Claims teams to ensure alignment on file strategy.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance regarding RSLA legislation, towing practices, and storage disputes.
- Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices.
- Promote open communication and collaborative problem-solving across departments.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor trends involving repeat towing facilities, repair shops, and litigation outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce claim costs, improve cycle times, and strengthen operational controls.
- Support reporting, governance, and tracking activities within the RSLA function.
- Contribute to process enhancement initiatives and implementation of future-state operating practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Claims handling experience, preferably within Auto Claims, Total Loss, Subrogation, Salvage, or Litigation.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to review financial exposure and conduct cost-benefit analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Knowledge of the Repair and Storage Liens Act (RSLA) and vehicle relocation processes.
- Experience working with legal counsel, court processes, or litigation management.
- Experience in Total Loss, Salvage, Subrogation, Recovery, or related claims disciplines.
- Advanced analytical and reporting capabilities.
