We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Accident Benefits Claim Technical Consultant to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a key technical resource, working with different teams to improve quality, boost performance, and support organizational goals.
You will provide coaching and mentoring to a diverse team, offering guidance on company best practices and new industry trends. Your responsibilities include developing team members’ skills, supporting their growth, and encouraging a collaborative and inclusive workplace. Working with various stakeholders, your analytical skills will be key in spotting trends and providing insights that inform decisions and shape strategies for operational improvement.
This position allows you to contribute to strategic planning and ongoing improvement initiatives. By leveraging data analysis, benchmarking, and industry insights, you will make strategic recommendations to advance our claims processes in line with business and industry changes.
To thrive in this role, you need extensive
Accident Benefits claims expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to drive change through collaboration, strategy, and team development. Your insights will help shape the direction of our claims operations and support overall business performance.
Accountabilities:
- Coach, mentor, and support the development of team members at all levels across the claims department. Foster skill growth, confidence, and career progression, ensuring team members excel in both minor and complex claim handling.
- In collaboration with training and development, lead and facilitate training, workshops, and peer mentoring programs, equipping team members with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in their roles and align with evolving business processes.
- Provide oversight on losses of varying size, ensuring appropriate management and resolution.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, to ensure alignment with business objectives and drive operational success.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and fair claims practices. Provide guidance on policy interpretation and application effectively within the team and across operations.
- Leverage in-depth knowledge of industry standards and business processes to drive continuous improvement in operational performance and efficiency. Support the development of technical handling guidelines across claims. Analyze business and stakeholder needs to recommend improvements and optimize claims procedures.
- Review and analyze national claims results to support action planning and performance improvement with operational leadership teams
- Drive the successful completion of strategic initiatives and projects by supporting organizational objectives and adapting processes as needed at a global or enterprise level.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years experience in Accident Benefits claims adjusting or equivalent experience.
- Expert knowledge of insurance policy interpretation, coverage analysis and claim management strategies.
- Experience across multiple provinces is an asset.
- 3 years leadership experience or equivalent is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or equivalent industry certifications.
- Membership in industry associations or technical committees is an asset.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling varying loss complexities, including large loss, complex and litigation claims.
- Strong investigative skills with the ability to resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Proven success in training, coaching, and mentoring others, leadership experience is considered an advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in building rapport and working effectively with individuals at all levels and technical abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure.
