This mid-level role will support on-premises Redis deployments and multiple cloud-managed in-memory database offerings, with an emphasis on reliable operations, automation, security, performance, high availability, backup and recovery, and consistent engineering practices.
The ideal candidate has practical Redis administration experience, solid Linux skills, and hands-on exposure to one or more cloud in-memory database services. The engineer will work closely with application, infrastructure, security, SRE, network, and cloud engineering teams while continuing to grow platform-design and troubleshooting expertise.
In-Memory Database Platform Engineering
· Build, deploy, administer, and support production and non-production Redis environments across on-premises infrastructure and cloud-managed in-memory database services.
· Perform installation, configuration, patching, version upgrades, migrations, lifecycle management, and routine platform maintenance.
· Support Redis standalone, replication, and clustered architectures as applicable to the platform and workload.
· Apply engineering standards, reference configurations, operational controls, and documented best practices.
· Partner with application teams on connectivity, caching patterns, key design, data structures, performance, resilience, and operational readiness.
Multi-Cloud In-Memory Services
· Support managed in-memory database offerings such as Amazon ElastiCache for Redis/Valkey, Amazon MemoryDB, Azure Managed Redis, and Google Cloud Memorystore, based on enterprise platform direction.
· Assist with provisioning, configuration, scaling, maintenance, monitoring, networking, access management, and migration activities across cloud environments.
· Help maintain consistent security, reliability, observability, and operational practices across on-premises and cloud implementations.
High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Data Protection
· Configure and support highly available Redis solutions using replication, clustering, multi-zone, or cloud-native resiliency capabilities.
· Configure and operate persistence, snapshot, backup, retention, restore, and recovery-validation processes where supported and required by the service.
Performance and Reliability
· Monitor database availability, memory utilization, latency, throughput, replication health, capacity, and platform performance.
· Analyze and tune Redis configurations, memory policies, data structures, client behavior, connection patterns, hot keys, and workload characteristics.
· Troubleshoot production incidents, contribute to root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
· Participate in capacity planning, observability, operational health, and reliability improvements.
Security and Compliance
· Implement and maintain authentication, authorization, least-privilege access, network controls, auditing, and credential-management integrations.
· Support private connectivity and identity/access controls for cloud-managed services.
· Assist with vulnerability remediation, compliance reviews, security assessments, and evidence requests.
Automation and DevOps
· Develop and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment, patching, validation, monitoring, and routine operations.
· Use source control, APIs, CI/CD practices, configuration management, and Infrastructure as Code to improve consistency and repeatability.
· Contribute to safe self-service capabilities and reduction of manual operational work.
Platform Operations
· Provide operational support for business-critical production and non-production in-memory database environments.
· Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, change management, and problem management.
· Create and maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, standards, and operational documentation.
· Work independently on standard engineering tasks and partner with senior engineers on complex designs, migrations, and incidents.
Required Qualifications
· 4+ years of database administration, database engineering, platform engineering, or related infrastructure experience.
· 2+ years of hands-on Redis administration or engineering experience in production or enterprise environments.
· Working knowledge of Redis architecture, persistence, replication, clustering, memory management, security, maintenance, and performance tuning.
· Hands-on experience with high availability, backup/recovery or persistence strategies, monitoring, capacity planning, and production support.
· Experience supporting at least one cloud-managed in-memory database service or comparable cloud database platform.
· Solid Linux administration and troubleshooting skills; RHEL or a comparable enterprise Linux distribution is preferred.
· Ability to troubleshoot database, operating system, storage, network, client-connectivity, and application-integration issues.
· Experience executing upgrades, patching, migrations, platform changes, and controlled production releases.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with more than one cloud in-memory offering, especially Amazon ElastiCache for Redis/Valkey, Amazon MemoryDB, Azure Managed Redis, or Google Cloud Memorystore.
· Experience with Redis Enterprise or Redis Software for on-premises platform management.
· Experience with Ansible automation for installation, configuration, patching, validation, or recurring operational tasks.
· Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
· Experience with Infrastructure as Code and delivery tooling such as Terraform, GitHub, GitLab, or CI/CD pipelines.
· Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or native cloud monitoring services.
· Exposure to Redis-compatible technologies such as Valkey is beneficial.
Desired Attributes
· Strong ownership, customer focus, and attention to operational quality.
· Practical analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage priorities, follow engineering standards, and deliver assigned work with appropriate guidance.
