Job Description
In this role, you will lead the maintenance, modernization, and ongoing evolution of a mission-critical application supporting Allstate Dealer Services. This platform is fundamental to the operation of the business, enabling key dealer-facing processes and transactions that directly support revenue generation and day-to-day operations.
As a technical leader on the team, you will design, develop, and support backend services and applications, balancing the needs of a mature production environment with ongoing modernization efforts. You will contribute to architecture and technical direction, drive engineering best practices, and help ensure the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of systems that the business depends on every day.
This role includes ownership of applications in production, partnering closely with product, operations, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions, resolve complex technical challenges, and continuously improve the platform’s capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting enterprise payment solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including iteration planning, standups, and retrospectives, helping drive continuous improvement across the team.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Contribute to the architecture, development, and operation of scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Apply engineering best practices including clean code principles, test-driven development, code reviews, and automated testing.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes that support reliable software delivery.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support applications in production environments.
- Contribute to the codebase while ensuring adherence to coding standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
Essential Skills
- 4+ years of software development experience using C# and the .NET framework, including designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise applications.
- Experience designing and building REST APIs, including documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), versioning, testing, and service integration patterns.
- Strong understanding of software development concepts, object-oriented design principles, and modern engineering practices.
- Solid knowledge of relational database design, indexing strategies, query optimization, and SQL development.
- Experience creating products using Test Driven Development (TDD) and testing frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, MSTest, or equivalent.
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps methodologies using tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, SonarQube, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing and supporting production services and implementing observability using Datadog or equivalent monitoring solutions.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker for deploying and managing applications.
- Familiarity with modernizing applications and services toward current .NET platforms, including .NET 8.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum or eXtreme Programming (XP) work environment (or equivalent).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with .NET Core and modern .NET application development patterns.
- Experience with Java and enterprise frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, or related technologies.
- Experience building and operating high-traffic, distributed systems that support large transaction volumes, with strong emphasis on reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Experience utilizing quality and security scanning tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, Contrast, or similar technologies.
- Experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
